New Delhi, February 9
Targeting the BJP-led Central Government, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said he would open as many schools in the city as the number of summons sent to him by probe agencies.
He said this while laying the foundation stone of a government school in Mayur Vihar Phase-III area of East Delhi.
CM: Pension of DTC employees deposited
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced on Friday that all outstanding pensions for retired Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) employees have been successfully transferred to their accounts. He underscored the government’s commitment by convening a special Assembly session to augment the budget allocated for pensions. TNS
Addressing the gathering, he remarked, “They (BJP) have erected numerous obstacles in my path, bombarding me with notices every day. No matter how many summons they issue, I will keep on opening schools.”
He continued, “The BJP’s creed seems to be sending notices and summons, while my creed remains serving the people.”
Last week, Kejriwal was served a notice from the Delhi Police in the MLA poaching case, where he alleged that seven MLAs of his party were offered Rs 25 crore by the BJP.
On Wednesday, he faced another setback in the liquor scam case, as the Enforcement Directorate moved to court after he ignored five summons. The Delhi court, after reviewing the submissions, has summoned him for February 17.
During the event, he remarked, “Before 2013, Delhi’s government schools were in shambles. Children would attend school but return without receiving proper education. Since the AAP came to power, we have changed this narrative.”
“In the past few days, I have inaugurated six schools, providing education to 1-1.5 lakh children. Previously, there was only a tin school at this location, but now children will receive free education,” he added. He emphasised that providing quality education to children could eradicate poverty within a generation.
He further said the AAP’s government in Punjab is constructing new schools and refurbishing old, dilapidated buildings. “However, the BJP doesn’t want us to work; they do not want the poor to be educated,” the CM asserted.
