New Delhi: A 50-year-old woman was shot at by two people while she was asleep in her house in North East Delhi on Saturday, police officials said. The woman, identified as Shakila, received a bullet wound on her left shoulder, they said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Joy Tirkey said the incident took place at Janata Mazdoor Colony at 2 am. During the initial investigation, the police found that two people came to Shakila’s house and opened fire at her. On the complaint of the victim’s son Mohammad Ishtikar, a case under Section 109(1)/3(5) (murder) of the BNS and the Arms Act has been registered. Reason behind firing is being ascertained, the police said.PTI
1 electrocuted in bhajanpura
New Delhi: A woman (34) died due to electrocution around 7.39 am on Saturday as she placed her foot in rainwater accumulated along a road in North East Delhi’s Bhajanpura area. The incident took place near Moral Hospital in the C Block of Yamuna Vihar. A police officer said water had accumulated in the area after rainfall on Friday. “The mishap was caused due to a live wire from an electricity pole near the footpath. She was rushed to Moral Hospital, where the doctor pronounced her dead,” DCP (northeast) Joy Tirky said. The police have filed a case of death by negligence. PTI
50,000 trees, 5.5L shrubs planted
New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority said on Saturday it had planted 50,000 trees and 5,50,000 shrubs in the 2024-25 fiscal year so far across the city and was taking steps to ensure the saplings were nurtured sufficiently to achieve optimal survival. The DDA said as per its regular practice of greening Delhi, it is conducting plantation drives and awareness camps with the support of locals.
