The police suspect the involvement of his male friend in the crime and have launched a manhunt to trace him.
The woman, identified as Sakshi (25), was a resident of Masjid Moth, Andrew Ganj, Hauz Khas. She was employed with a private firm and had been living on rent at the apartment where the incident took place.
According to the police, the Kotla Mubarakpur police station received information about the incident on Tuesday night through a PCR call made by the landlord of the apartment.
Parents of the landlord, who lived in the building, heard loud noises from the tenant’s room. They alerted his son over the phone.
When the landlord went to check, he noticed bloodstains on the staircase. He did not go upstairs, and instead called the police. When the police reached the spot, they found bloodstains on the staircase and the main door of the apartment locked from outside. After breaking open the door, the police found Sakshi’s body lying in a pool of blood inside the room.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the woman was in the room with her male friend at the time of the incident. A quarrel reportedly broke out between them, during which the accused stabbed her multiple times on the face and throat with a knife, officials said.
