Worker killed, another hurt as factory roof collapses

A person died, while another suffered injuries after the roof of a small factory collapsed in Northeast Delhi’s Garhi New Usmanpur, the police said on Saturday.

The incident was reported around 6 pm on Friday at the factory that manufactures iron stands. According to the police, the roof of the structure caved in suddenly, injuring two workers - Tajim and Akram, both aged 25.

The injured persons were shifted to a hospital where Akram succumbed to his injuries, while Tajim’s condition remains stable.

Following the incident, a case under Sections 290 (negligent conduct), 125A (endangering human life) and 3(5) (joint liability) was registered. Later, Section 106 (causing death by a rash or negligent act) of the BNS was also added to the FIR, an official said.

Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to ascertain liability and whether safety norms were violated in the structure’s construction and maintenance, the cop added.
