Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Delhi Government following widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls and disruptions caused by heavy pre-monsoon rains that lashed the Capital on Saturday night.

Yadav said while the BJP government was busy preparing to celebrate its first 100 days in the office, the city came to a grinding halt as rainwater submerged key areas like Minto Road, ITO, Moti Bagh, Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1.

He alleged that the downpour exposed the “indecisive” working style of the Rekha Gupta-led administration.

“The city drowned while the government stood clueless. Flight delays, fallen trees, traffic jams and waterlogged roads showed that the BJP government, like its AAP predecessor, has only mastered the art of making excuses and misleading the public,” Yadav said.

He criticised the government for failing to make adequate pre-monsoon preparations despite warnings.

Yadav said Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and PWD Minister Parvesh Verma had visited waterlogging hotspots such as Minto Bridge, Ring Road drain near WHO and Pul Prahladpur underpass on April 19. “They made tall claims about installing automated pumping systems and deploying modern de-silting machines with 24x7 operators. But all those claims fell flat when the rains actually came,” he said.

Calling the BJP’s handling of the crisis a “repeat of the AAP government’s failures,” Yadav said the situation shows that only cosmetic inspections and PR campaigns had been carried out, with no real change on the ground.
