Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav on Sunday pledged that the Congress would not allow the demolition of even a single house at the 300-year-old East Mehram Nagar village near the IGI Airport, warning the BJP government of mass resistance.
“The Congress will not allow even a single house to be demolished at 300-year-old Village East Mehram Nagar,” Yadav declared while addressing a Mahapanchayat of 36 communities from 360 villages, organised by the Yuva Gram Sudhar Sangthan.
He accused the BJP of targeting the poor and handing over their land to corporate houses. “After uprooting lakhs of people from the JJ clusters with merciless demolition drives, the BJP government is now targeting the villagers of Delhi as the sword of demolition was now hanging over the residents of 300-year-old East Mehram Nagar village, near the IG Airport, which the Congress will not allow to succeed,” he said.
Other Congress leaders, including AICC Secretary Abhishek Dutt, former MLA Hari Shankar Gupta and Harnam Singh, also addressed the gathering. Several ex-MLAs and local leaders, including Brig Pradeep Upmanyu and Youth Congress president Akshay Lakra, were present on the occasion.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Yadav said the Congress would extend “full support” to villagers across Delhi. “The deaf and dumb BJP government, which works for the interest of the rich and the powerful, should be shown the mirror with a forceful resistance.”
