The court of Faridabad’s Additional Sessions Judge Jyoti Lamba has sentenced a youth to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh for abetting his girlfriend’s suicide.

According to the police, a case was registered against the convict, Gaurav, at the SGM Nagar police station on July 11, 2021, after his girlfriend hanged herself to death on July 8.

Chief Defence Council advocate Ravindra Gupta said the girl became friends with Gaurav on Instagram. A suicide note was also recovered near the girl’s body. On the basis of evidence and witnesses, the court held him guilty.

According to the police, Gaurav had told the girl that he used to work at Palam Airport. After becoming friends, they started meeting each other. Both of them were originally from Khagaria district of Bihar. Hence, the matter reached marriage, but after some time, the accused broke up with his girlfriend. Distressed by this, the girl committed suicide.

The deceased’s father had lodged a case with the police.
