Accused hurt in attempt to flee police custody in Lalru

An accused suffered a fracture while trying to flee police custody in Lalru. The police had taken Gagandeep Singh, alias Gagan, of Surat Manauli to Lalru for the recovery of the crime weapon in a case.

Gagan was arrested for brutally attacking an eatery owner, Dalwinder Singh, alias Rinku, on April 20. A team of the Dera Bassi of police tracked him down at Pilkhani village in Haryana and arrested him on June 30. He was remanded in five-day police custody by the local court.

Today, Gagan was taken to the banks of the Jharmal rivulet in Lalru for the recovery of the weapon used in the crime. In a failed attempt to flee police custody, he sustained a fracture in his right leg. He was shifted to the government hospital in Dera Bassi.

The police said a group of five assailants, led by Gagan, had brutally attacked Dalwinder Singh, owner of Pardhan Dhaba, Mamoli village, in Lalru, causing him grievous head injuries.

A case under Sections 109, 115(2), 117(2), 117(4), 118(1), 118(2), 126(2), 191(3), and 190 of the BNS was registered on April 21. Three of the accused were arrested shortly after the incident, while another accused, Golu, was nabbed later.
