NDP leader Jagmeet Singh has been defeated in Burnaby Central. The Sikh leader has decided to resign from NDP leadership after losing Canada elections and has conceded defeat. "Will step down once an interim leader is named," said Singh.

The National Democratic Party has secured only 12 seats so far, thus losing the party’s national status.

The NDP contested on 343 seats.  The party had secured 24 seats during the previous election.

The development is being seen as a blow to the supporters of Khalistan in Canada as Jagmeet Singh, a leader of the NDP, is recognised as a Khalistani sympathiser.
