The gang said the industrialist was targeted because he refused to pay extortion money.

Police investigation into both the incidents is on, and security has been tightened to protect potential targets within the Indo-Canadian community.

The Bishnoi gang is a notorious criminal syndicate led by Lawrence Bishnoi, who has been imprisoned in India since 2014 but continues to control criminal operations from prison. The gang has a vast network involving hundreds of members engaged in extortion, targeted killings, drug trafficking, and armed violence across India and internationally, including Canada.

The group gained prominence after high-profile crimes like the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022 and has been designated a terrorist entity by Canadian authorities due to its transnational criminal activities. The gang wields significant influence in regions with large Punjabi diaspora populations, posing serious challenges for law-enforcement agencies.

Responsibility for the murder and the firing was claimed in a Facebook post by Goldie Dhillon, a known member of the Bishnoi gang. In the post, Dhillon alleged that Sahsi was killed due to his involvement in drug trafficking and refusal to pay extortion money demanded by the gang.
