Jalandhar, December 30
After the US lawmakers, several Indian Americans, including Mayors, have expressed concern over the ongoing farmers’ protest.
In a joint letter addressed to Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, they have wrote, “Over the past several weeks, many farmers across India have engaged in peaceful protest against legislation they believe will lead to economic ruin of their agricultural communities. They have made it clear that the legislation will benefit corporates, creating monopolies. Farmers have travelled from their homes to protest on the streets of Delhi, demanding change in the government policy.”
The letter further stated, “During their peaceful travel, the police have impeded the farmers by blocking roads, attacking them with tear gas, using water cannons and engaging in assaults, to stop them from exercising civil rights granted to all citizens.”
The Prime Minister and law enforcement authorities should immediately halt their campaign of abuse against the peacefully protesting farmers, they stated in the letter. — TNS
