Kundi, a father of two, is now on life support with serious brain and neck injuries.
Kundi and his partner, Amritpal Kaur, were having a loud argument early Thursday morning in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide.
Kaur claims Kundi was drunk, but not violent. However, police who were passing by thought it was a case of domestic violence and stepped in.
When police tried to arrest Kundi, things got physical. Kaur filmed the incident on her phone.
In the video, Kundi can be heard shouting, “I’ve done nothing wrong,” while Kaur begs the officers to stop and says they are being unfair.
During the arrest, Kundi was tackled to the ground. Kaur says one officer pushed Kundi’s head into the police car and the ground, then pressed a knee into his neck.
She said she stopped recording because she panicked. Moments later, Kundi lost consciousness.
Doctors at Royal Adelaide Hospital say Kundi has serious brain damage and injuries to the nerves in his neck.
South Australia Police are now investigating. They are reviewing video from the police body cameras.
