The Indian man who was handcuffed and pinned to the floor at the Newark airport in the US has been identified as a resident of Yamunanagar in Haryana.

The Indian Consulate in New York has said that Vishal had entered the United States illegally without a valid visa and was being deported to India in keeping with a court order.

During his transit at Newark, the US authorities found his behaviour not conducive to travelling. He was restrained and admitted to a medical facility, sources said.

Once he is fit to travel, he will be deported to India, sources said, adding that the Indian Consulate in New York continues to be in touch with the US authorities, sources said.

Pictures of the man in handcuffs pinned to the ground at the airport had led to a public outrage in India.

The Ministry of External Affairs had taken up the case with the US Embassy in New Delhi.
