Indian woman’s gold chain snatched in US, mom back home shaken, says ‘jo Bihar mein kabhi nahin huva wo Chicago me kaise ho gaya’

A video has surfaced on social media, where an Indian woman based in Chicago recounted a terrifying chain-snatching incident that occurred in broad daylight.

The woman, identified as Chabi Gupta, shared her experience in the video that has since gone viral, sparking widespread concern over public safety—even in major cities of the United States.

In the video, Chabi appears visibly shaken as she holds up a broken gold chain after the attack.

She reveals that the incident took place in downtown Chicago, on a crowded street in broad daylight, leaving her momentarily frozen in shock.

"Can't believe it happened. Got my chain snatched in downtown Chicago, broad daylight, crowded street. For a second, I froze. Then it hit me how real this city can get," she said in her post.

She also urged others in the area to stay cautious: "Keep your valuables secure, stay alert, and try to walk in groups whenever possible."

Family back home shaken

The video also includes a touching clip from a video call with her mother, who was visibly distressed. In the call, her mother remarks emotionally: “Jo Ranchi, Patna mein kabhi nahin huva wo Chicago me kaise ho gaya (This never happened in Ranchi, Patna— wherever you lived before. How could it happen in Chicago”)

The viral video has triggered a wave of responses online, with many users questioning perceptions of safety in Western countries.
