The Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that a letter claiming to be from the Government of India ‘detailing tasks’ for the Indian Embassy in the US and the High Commission in Canada was fake.

A ‘letter’ dated April 6, 2023 was posted on X by a user, who claims to be from New York.

It claims, “Indian Government’s Secret Memo has been leaked.”

The ‘letter’ alleges that diplomats were asked to counter Khalistani activists by using other organisations of the diaspora in the US and Canada.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
