The American Historical Association has announced winners of its various awards for 2021. Krea University’s Vice Chancellor and professor of history and environmental studies Mahesh Rangarajan has been made the honorary foreign member in recognition of exhaustive work in his academic field.

Previous honorary overseas members from India include eminent historians Sir Jadunath Sarkar, Prof Romila Thapar and Prof Ramachandra Guha.

An author of several books and papers, Rangarajan calls the honour a recognition for his teachers at universities of Delhi and Oxford, colleagues, students and fellow researchers. “The scholarship of history in India is not new but environmental themes have picked up pace in the last few decades,” he said. — TNS
