Education Minister for transparent exams, curriculum reforms
Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur has urged officials and employees of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE) to ensure transparency in the conduct of examinations and improve the curriculum to promote the holistic development of students. He made these remarks while presiding over a meeting with board functionaries on Friday evening. Officiating Chairman of the Board and District Magistrate Hemraj Bairwa, along with Secretary Dr. Vishal Sharma, were also present.
The minister reviewed the board’s functioning and emphasised that the all-round development of children must remain a top priority. He highlighted that students put in year-round efforts to excel in board examinations, and hence, transparency in paper setting, checking, and other exam-related processes is essential. He asserted that the state government is deeply concerned about students’ futures and would not tolerate any negligence in this regard.
Thakur stressed the need to adopt a rotation system in paper setting and evaluation to avoid malpractice. He urged board officials to implement necessary reforms without delay wherever required. The minister also called for the board to enhance its relevance and quality by studying the functioning of other school boards across the country and adopting their best practices.
He further suggested the integration of yoga, regional language, sports, and Himachal Pradesh’s history and culture into the school curriculum to strengthen students’ overall foundation. According to him, the education board must evolve with time, giving more importance to objectivity and moving towards digitisation by embracing modern technology.
Highlighting existing digital initiatives, Hemraj Bairwa informed the minister that the board has already digitised many of its services. Students can now access results and other documents online. He added that the board is working towards upgrading its systems using modern IT tools to offer enhanced services to both students and teachers.
The minister concluded by encouraging continuous improvement and modernisation in education practices to better serve the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
