Doctor among two booked on sexual harassment charge

For allegedly making sexually coloured remarks and seeking sexual favour from a woman, a relative of a cancer patient, the Faridkot police on Sunday booked a surgeon and a laboratory technician of Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital here.

A case under Sections 354-A and 34 of the IPC has been registered at the Faridkot police station. The case was registered after Faridkot DSP Gurpreet Singh conducted an inquiry into the allegations. The victim had filed a complaint three days ago.

According to the FIR, the victim had approached laboratory technician Bhupinder Singh on January 8 after her mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The complainant said Bhupinder had suggested her to take the mother-in-law to a surgeon, Dr Aashutosh Talwar, in the medical college. The doctor had assured her of all possible help in treating the patient under the Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund. The doctor had also got my mobile number to contact me, said the victim.

She said on the directions of the doctor, her father-in-law and she gave blood samples on January 24. Later, she found that the blood samples of her father-in-law were collected for the HIV test.

The victim added that days after collecting the blood samples, Dr Aashutosh through laboratory technician Bhupinder started talking to her and the former started asking intimate questions, which were not related to the health of her mother-in-law.

She said the doctor sought sexual favour from her for proper treatment of her mother-in-law and when she denied, the treatment was stopped.

No arrest has been made so far.
