A documentary on the life of Ved Ram Thakur, founder of Bhuttico, a leading cooperative society engaged in handloom products, was released today. Former minister and chairman of the society, Satya Prakash Thakur, said the documentary titled ‘Soul of Bhuttico’ provided information about the struggle of Ved Ram Thakur and his efforts to provide employment to the weavers.
The chairman said the documentary was written and directed by scholar of folk culture and writer, Dr Surat Thakur. He said artistes of the Active Monal Culture Association, along with president Kehar Singh Thakur, had performed in the documentary and the photography was done by Narender Thakur. Satya Prakash said it was because of the efforts of Ved Ram Thakur that Kullu shawls and caps got recognition internationally. He said despite weak financial resources, Ved Ram Thakur marketed the handloom products in various fairs by carrying the products on his back.
The chairman said Ved Ram Thakur was a prolific genius and he had a unique talent in the handloom and handicraft industry. He said all office-bearers and weavers were following in his footsteps and trying to take the society forward. He said Ved Ram Thakur had not only honoured the weavers of the state, but also made efforts to keep ancient handicraft of the state alive.
The present day weavers as well as the younger generation would get inspired from the documentary, he said. He added that the efforts of the Bhuttico founder could never be forgotten and it was because of his approach that thousands of families were earning livelihood from weaving industry.
