Punjab and Haryana High Court CJ Sheel Nagu donates blood as Bar continues 3-decade-old tradition

Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Sheel Nagu today inaugurated a blood donation camp with a personal gesture—cutting a cake and rolling up his sleeve to donate blood.

Organised by the HC Bar Association in collaboration with Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, the camp witnessed participation by 126 donors. The CJ was accompanied by Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra—recently transferred from Allahabad High Court—Justice Suvir Sehgal, Justice Harkesh Manuja and Justice Aman Chaudhary.

Bar Association president Sartej Singh Narula, who also donated blood, said such camps had been a regular feature for over three decades, with two to three camps held annually. “The last time a sitting Chief Justice donated blood was a decade ago—Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul. He was later elevated to the Supreme Court,” Narula recalled. Senior advocate Manmohan Lal Sarin fondly called Mac Sarin – a walking testament to the cause with over a hundred donations to his name – thanked the volunteers for what he called “an act of silent heroism”.

“Each pint is a selfless gift that could save a life. This act is a reminder that compassion still runs deep in our professional community. In a world that too often celebrates noise, 126 people chose to give something deeply personal—without expecting anything in return,” he said.
