THE Union government’s refusal to permit Sikh jathas to visit Nankana Sahib on Guru Nanak Parkash Purab strikes a raw nerve in Punjab. More so when the government has raised no objection to India-Pakistan cricket fixtures. The double standards are glaring, as pointed out by the state CM, Bhagwant Mann. Faith cannot be held hostage to political point-scoring. Pilgrimage to the Guru’s birthplace is not a matter of leisure or entertainment; it is a spiritual necessity for millions of Sikhs across the globe.
