PPRIME Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney in Alberta on Tuesday laid the foundation for rebuilding bilateral ties after nearly two years of turbulence. The tensions witnessed during Justin Trudeau’s tenure seem to have subsided, with the two nations agreeing to reinstate High Commissioners. However, the factors that triggered the conflict in 2023 are still not dead and buried, going by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service’s annual report. The document was released, not surprisingly, a day after the two PMs met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit. It has noted that Canada-based Khalistani extremists continue to plan and fund violence in India. This acknowledgement vindicates New Delhi’s long-held position that pro-Khalistan elements in Canada have been brazenly carrying out anti-India activities.
