Stripped for bleeding in Thane: When schools become sites of shame
In yet another horrifying reminder of the deep-rooted stigma surrounding menstruation, a school in Thane forcibly stripped around 10 girls to identify who among them was menstruating after blood stains were found in the washroom. Girls from classes V to X were rounded up, interrogated, shown photos of the stains and forcibly stripped by staff. The principal and peon have been arrested while teachers and trustees face charges under the POCSO Act.
