What attracted you to this particular role in Ek Thi Begum?

The role has a very good scope for performance. The way the character gets introduced and the way it ends is unique. Also, the series is based in Mumbai of 90s and talks about a female protagonist. These two factors were very important for me.

What has been your preparation for this role?

My character, Shakil Ansari, who owns a construction company, talks in a soft manner. My look is quite mature and polished in the series. So before starting shooting, I had to work in these areas.

Life must have changed for you after The Family Man?

Honestly, I have not noticed it much because the last one-and-a-half-year we were all at home. But I got to realise this recently when we were in London as I went to watch a cricket match, when people started recognising me. They called me by my character’s name.

Are you enjoying this phase of your career?

Yes, a lot. But I am still giving auditions and trying to create my own space in the industry.

How conscious are you about not repeating the same character on screen?

I am not conscious at all. An actor should differentiate between roles. If I am playing two different characters in the same way, then it’s my fault.

Who all have inspired you in acting?

Since childhood, I have adored Shah Rukh Khan and Govinda. I find Ranveer Singh extremely talented as well. Then I have also learnt from late Om Puri and Irrfan Khan, and also Manoj Bajpayee.

What is your wish now as an actor?

I want to do something light like a romantic comedy where the audience can see me in a different way and I also can showcase my ability.

How do you de-stress?

I love my family time. I am blessed with a great family and also a great friend circle. I love cooking and travelling.

What are your expectations from The Family Man 3?

Unfortunately, my character has died in the series. It’s a great realistic show. You never know, maybe Sajid (my character) comes in some flashback scenes. Till now I have no idea, so my best wishes for the third season!
