The first performance is always a nostalgic experience for an artiste. Aakash Talwar, who is currently seen in not one but two shows -Shakti…Astitva Ke Ehsaas Kii and Naagin 5 -first performed for a band in college. ‘That day I slept on the stage after the show got over; that’s how badly I wanted to perform again. It was an addictive affair from there on,” says Aakash.

First the lockdown, then a rub off with Covid-19, this workaholic is happy to be back on the sets. Alive and kicking, Aakash shuffles from one set to another for he plays Tapish in Naagin season 5 and a good cop in Shakti… Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. He adds, “The lockdown gave me time to spend with my wife, as I got married recently. It has given us actors a break, which we would never have afforded to go on otherwise! I enjoyed cooking during this time and pampered my wife with different dishes, while she was working from home.”

True Punjabi

Born in Amritsar, he shifted to Delhi for higher education and soon after to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. “But you can’t change the basic genes of a Punjabi. I am a hardcore foodie. And I enjoy cooking as much as I like to eat. While I am able to cook everything, it is my Amritsari chole that are popular. I bring them to my sets as well since everybody in the cast loves to indulge in anything Amritsari – from naan to bhaturas.”

He has been part of shows like Daayan, Aahat and even did a miniseries, Fear Files, for Zee TV.As an actor, he has found that a switch from one character to another is normal. He adds, “I do not think it is hard for an actor to act. Doing two or three characters at a time is very normal, for even in one show you get to show different avatars. I enjoy my craft and it doesn’t feel stressful to be working for long hours because it’s never enough if you love what you do.”

Character wise

Ask him to pick his favourite character from the ones he has delivered and he recalls Kabir from Mastaangi, “I die, reincarnate; was a lover boy and played bad for a while as well. The show embodied everything I would want to do for starters,” he adds.

About taking up Naagin, he says, “The Naagin series has been one of the most-loved and followed on TV. I have done a lot of roles, but the fantasy element along with drama is the USP of this show, which made me grab the role of Tapish in Naagin 5. On the sets of Naagin, he felt more than welcome, “I gelled with everyoneas I really like to talk. I share my stories and emotions like everyone else. Since my father (Parag Tyagi) is in Naagin 5 and also playing my father in Shakti…Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, I tend to tag along more with him.”
