Abijeet Duddala, who is seen in Amazon Prime Video’s Modern Love Hyderabad, talks to us about life, work and more

You have a degree in aeronautical engineering. From engineering to acting, how did this transition happen?

I think having an academic background sets the tone to be an actor. I feel people really need to be mindful about how human emotions work when it comes to acting. If you’re from an engineering background, you see things more tangibly.

Talking about your recent release, how has been the response for Modern Love Hyderabad?

It has been great and I am really happy with the way the audience has received the show. I was talking to a friend a couple of days back and he pointed out that how understated my work is, that really meant a lot to me. It gave me a sense of achievement.

Tell us more about the episode in which you have been featured in the show.

I am in the fourth episode of Modern Love Hyderabad and my character’s name is Ashwin. The story revolves around two people, Ashwin and Vinnie. Ashwin is a TV producer and Vinnie is a stand-up performer. My character is all about reenergising the TV space as he recognises that there’s a whole bunch of audience that are not being catered to.

How was the experience shooting for the series in your hometown?

There is a sense of familiarity when you’re shooting something in your own city. There’s a sort of comfort and that helps to emote better.

The show is all about love, so what is love for Abijeet?

I am still trying to figure it out (laughs).

You have been a part of films, TV and now OTT. Which medium do you prefer?

I am comfortable working on every platform. I think the only difference is how you see the final product. With Bigg Boss Telugu, I was experimenting with TV and I never really saw myself working in that space. My ambiis to work in cinema and I am committed to that.

Talking about the current debate – South vs Bollywood, coming from Telugu industry, how do you see that?

I don’t really see it as a debate. But it is a really good thing that we are crossing boundaries. I think the entire Indian film industry has now come together as a one big family.

Who is your inspiration?

I have grown up watching a lot of Hollywood action movies. I like movies of Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Tom Hanks, Christian Bale and others. I sort of see myself doing such work.

Any particular filmmaker who is on your wishlist ?

Without a doubt it has to be Rajamouli sir.
