Actress Kishori Shahane Vij, who is seen in the show KaiseMujhe Tum Mil Gaye, talks about her role and the show
What kind of preparation have you done to get into the skin of the character?
When the character of Babita was narrated to me, I found it quite unlike my own persona and therein lay the challenge for me as an actor. She is an elitist Punjabi mother from South Delhi and being a Maharashtrian woman married into a Punjabi family, I realised I could incorporate my observations about Punjabi culture, mannerisms and body language into my character. Drawing from my own life experiences, and multiple roles that I’ve played during different phases of my life, I am trying my best to embody the role as naturally as possible. Being a mother myself, I believe that replicating genuine maternal instincts also helped me add a layer of authenticity, and that will make the character of Babita relatable and compelling for the audience.
What can viewers expect from the show?
Television over the years has mirrored society. Our story explores what happens when two people from diverse cultural backgrounds and opposite points of view on the subject of marriage cross paths. What unfolds between the two presents a very realistic take on modern love.
How is your bonding with co-stars?
I share a very good bond with everyone, especially with Hemangi Kavi, because we both are Maharashtrians. I am a big fan of her work and her talent. She performs very well. I am so happy that we both are sharing screen space for the first time. Apart from her, I share a sweet bond with Arjit Taneja and Sriti Jha; both are adorable. We all sit together during the lunch breaks and share our meals.
How similar or different are you from your character?
I am very different from my character because she is a typical South Delhi woman, who is very concerned about her social status. Moreover, I am portraying a grey character in the show, which will bring in loads of twists and turns.
What changes have you noticed in the daily soaps’ industry?
In recent years, I have observed a noticeable change in the content and filming techniques of daily soaps. There is now a greater demand for authentic and relatable storytelling, which has led to a shift in the narrative and style of these shows. Today’s audience appreciates well-developed characters, realistic storylines and captivating plots. And that’s what we’re trying to provide to our audience through the show. I must add that technological advancements have made the filming process more efficient and dynamic. Overall, the industry has adapted to the evolving preferences of viewers, resulting in a wider range of diverse and engaging content.
Which is the most challenging character you have essayed till date?
Each role I have portrayed on screen till date has been challenging! Each role was different in its own way, bringing along its own set of challenges, so it is honestly very tough to single out any one of them.
