Adrija Roy, currently seen in Anupamaa, has come a long way from her early days, evolving not just as an actress but also as an artiste with a distinct voice and purpose. Reflecting on her journey so far, she shares, “Every project I’ve been a part of has shaped me in some way — both personally and professionally. I feel acting teaches you something new with every character you play. It’s a process of self-discovery as much as it is about storytelling.”
The actress believes one needs to constantly reinvent oneself. “When I look back, I can see how much I’ve evolved — not just in terms of performance, but also in understanding the nuances of human emotions. Earlier, I used to focus mainly on dialogues and expressions. Now, I pay more attention to energy, silence and stillness. Sometimes what you don’t say speaks louder than what you do,” she adds thoughtfully.
With the rise of OTT platforms and their appetite for diverse, layered narratives, Adrija sees this as an exciting time to be an actor. “OTT has truly changed the landscape for performers. It’s created space for experimentation, for characters who are imperfect, flawed, and real. As an actor, that’s liberating. You’re not bound by formulas; you can just be truthful to the story,” she explains.
Adrija also emphasises how important it is to stay authentic amid constant reinvention. “In this industry, it’s easy to get caught up in trends or pressure to fit a certain image. But for me, it’s always been about emotional honesty. I want people to feel something when they watch me perform. That’s the only kind of success that matters to me.”
