Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and her 8-year-old daughter Aaradhya Bachchan also tested positive for coronavirus---a development that comes a day after her actor husband Abhishek Bachchan and father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan said they had tested positive.

Abhishek Bachchan---who announced he had tested positive minutes after his father, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan had done so on Twitter---said in a tweet on Sunday that both his wife and daughter had tested positive and will be "self-quarantining at home", and that the rest of his family---including his actress-politician mother Jaya Bachchan---had tested negative.

"Aishwarya and Aaradhya have also tested COVID-19 positive. They will be self quarantining at home. The BMC has been updated of their situation and are doing the needful. The rest of the family including my Mother have tested negative. Thank you all for your wishes and prayers," his first tweet said.

A second tweet said he had his father were both at a hospital. The father-son duo are in the isolation ward of Mumbai's Nanavati hospital.

"My father and I remain in hospital till the doctors decide otherwise. Everyone please remain cautious and safe. Please follow all rules," the tweet said.

The tweets confirming Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's coronavirus status came after there was some confusion over whether she and her daughter had tested positive.

This confusion was primarily caused by Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope first tweeting that they had "tested COVID-19 positive" but later deleting that tweet.

Earlier on Sunday, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had said Jaya Bachchan and Aishwarya had tested negative for coronavirus.

The mayor had said the Bachchan residence is now a containment zone and all residents have been quarantined for 14 days.

Amitabh and his son Abhishek are "feeling better" as they get treated for coronavirus at Nanavati Hospital, Dr Abdul Samad Ansari, director of Critical Care Services at the hospital, said on Sunday.

On Sunday, Ansari said both the actors are "stable".

"Both Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek are comfortable and feeling better. General blood chemistries are acceptable with stable vitals. Both slept well and had their breakfasts. They are stable," Ansari told PTI.

After the Bachchans on Saturday said they tested positive for coronavirus and were admitted to hospital, some people tried to gather outside the medical facility located in Vile Parle (West), but they were asked to leave and not allowed to stand on the road, a police official said.

"We have beefed up security to avoid assembling of people outside the hospital. Other COVID-19 patients are also in the hospital, they should not face inconvenience. Our officers are outside the hospital and not allowing anyone to assemble," Santacruz police station's senior inspector Shriram Koregaonkar said.

Additional security has also been deployed outside the actor's bungalows where people may assemble, an official from Juhu police station said.

As per BMC, the coronavirus case tally in Mumbai rose to 91,457 on Saturday.

There are 22,779 active patients in Mumbai and the doubling rate is 50 days. — With PTI
