Centred on the life of late Syed Abdul Rahim who had coached and managed the Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963, Ajay Devgn’s biographical sports film Maidaan gets a theatrical release date. Excited to share the details, Ajay Devgn, on his Twitter account, shared the date as June 3, 2022 for a worldwide opening.
Sharing the new poster of the film, Ajay wrote, “Maidaan, A story that will resonate with every Indian, a film that I feel very strongly about. Mark the date on your calendar. Releasing worldwide on 3rd June, 2022.

Based on the golden years of Indian football, the film will see Devgn as Syed Abdul Rahim, who served as a coach and manager of the Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963.
Directed by the National Award Winner Amit Ravindernath Sharma of ‘Badhaai Ho!’ fame, the screenplay of ‘Maidaan’ is by Saiwyn Quadras and dialogues penned by Ritesh Shah. The film that reflects on the golden years of Indian football is being produced by Zee Studios in collaboration with Bayview Projects LLP and also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh.
Boney Kapoor, one of the producers of the film, who has backed projects including ‘Mr India’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Judaai’, ‘Wanted’ and ‘Mom’, also took to Twitter to share the new release date of ‘Maidaan’.

“The unknown true story that will make every Indian proud, ‘Maidaan’, will be released worldwide in cinemas on 3rd June, 2022,” he wrote.
The sports drama had faced a tumultuous shooting schedule with several roadblocks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and a cyclone that ravaged Mumbai.
