Amit Das, who was seen in a cameo in Diya Aur Baati Hum, talks about the show and journey so far
You took a break after a cameo in Diya Aur Baati Hum. How did you navigate through that period?
After my stint in Diya Aur Baati Hum, I found myself doing more theatre and less commercial work. It was a challenging phase where I struggled to market myself effectively in the TV industry. I realised I needed to re-assess my approach and figure out how to regain visibility.
Your entry into acting wasn’t pre-planned. Can you share the story of how you found your way into Prithvi Theatre and how that shaped your acting career?
My journey into acting began unexpectedly when someone introduced me to Prithvi Theatre. It felt like a natural fit, and I soon found myself performing there regularly. That experience laid the foundation for my acting career and instilled in me a deep passion for the craft.
Can you tell us more about what acting means to you on a personal level?
Acting, for me, is more than just a profession; it’s a source of inner peace and fulfillment. It allows me to express myself creatively and connect with audiences on a deeper level. It’s a form of self-discovery and catharsis that brings me immense satisfaction.
Reflecting on your journey so far, what are some key lessons you’ve learnt?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learnt is the importance of proactive self-promotion and networking. In an industry as competitive as ours, it’s essential to market oneself effectively and seize opportunities to showcase one’s talent. Building relationships and staying persistent are keys to sustaining a successful career.
How do you balance between your work in theatre, short films, and commercial projects? Do you have a preference, or do you enjoy the diversity of roles and mediums?
I see each medium as offering unique opportunities for artistic expression. While theatre allows for live interaction with audiences and a deeper exploration of characters, short films and commercial projects offer their own set of challenges and rewards. I enjoy the diversity of roles and mediums, as each experience enriches my craft and broadens my horizons as an actor.
What motivates you to continue pursuing acting despite the challenges and uncertainties of the industry?
The sheer love for acting and the creative fulfillment it brings to me is my primary motivation. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, I find solace and purpose in portraying diverse characters and telling compelling stories. The ability to connect with audiences and evoke emotions through my performances is what drives me.
What advice would you give to aspiring actors?
Stay true to yourself, hone your craft diligently, and never lose sight of your passion for acting. Embrace rejection as part of the journey and use it as fuel to keep improving and evolving as an artiste. Network persistently, seize every opportunity to showcase your talent, and, above all, believe in your abilities. With dedication, resilience and a bit of luck, success will inevitably follow.
