What is your role in Durga?

I play the role of Dev in Durga. I have never done something like this before. He is a mentally challenged person and behaves like a five-year old. It is quite a challenging role and I am giving it my best.

Did you make any special preparations for the role?

The role demanded a leaner and cleaner look because I needed to look younger than my real age. So, I lost five kilos. I started having boiled vegetables and also black coffee. My workout now consists of cross-fits only. I have stopped doing muscle gaining exercises.

What is the feedback you are getting for your new look?

People are surprised. My family and friends know how particular I am about my work-outs. In my last show Yeh Rishte Hai Pyar Ke, I shaved for a particular scene but in Durga this is going to be a permanent look. I will miss my moustache look!

What have you done during the break?

To rejuvenate myself, I went to Goa and had a great time. Then I also started taking dance classes. During this time, I have been offered similar kind of roles which I refused. But this one I found challenging, so pushed myself for it.

How will you sum up your experience of working in Yeh Rishte Hai Pyar Ke?

Working under the banner of Rajan Shahi was a great learning experience. I have worked with so many senior actors in the show. I had to replace someone in the show, who was there for the last one year. It was a big challenge. But I took it and am happy that the audience also accepted me in that role.

How do you see the new normal?

It is definitely different. On the sets, we take many precautions. The number of crew members is lesser, but we have to generate the same amount of footage every day. I believe we all have to work passionately and build our immunity, so that the virus cannot affect us.

What do you love to do in your free time?

It totally depends on my mood. I love sports and music. Playing the guitar is also one of my favourite hobbies. Nowadays, I am into a lot of reading. I also love swimming; I love to be in the pool for hours.

What is your dream role?

I believe it’s easy for me to do ‘chocolate hero’ roles, as my looks go with it. But I would love to play the character of an Army officer or a secret agent.
