The upcoming series is based on novels by JK Rowling, and is described as a "more in-depth" adaptation of Rowling's books as compared to the eight-part film franchise.

It stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout in the role of Ron Weasley. The characters were previously played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

The show is directed by "Succession" fame Mark Mylod and will follow orphaned wizard Harry Potter entering Hogwarts and starting his battle with Lord Voldemort. Other actors in the series are John Lithgow, who will feature as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost in the role of Rubeus Hagrid, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch.
