Sushmita Sen hits back at trolls; celebs heart that!

On Thursday night founder of IPL and entrepreneur Lalit Modi broke the news of dating former Miss Universe and actress Sushmita Sen on his Twitter handle. His original post with #betterhalf was soon followed with a clarification that they were only dating.

But netizens didn’t let it rest and on came the social-media trial. Words like #GoldDigger #Money started trending and that elicited a befitting reply from Sushmita.

Everybody’s business

After her relationship status became a public affair, in other words everybody’s business, Sushmita took to Instagram and posted a picture with her daughters Renee Sen and Alisah Sen saying she was in a happy space. But the actress couldn’t refrain from hitting back at trolls which were continuously targeting her and calling her a gold digger. On Sunday night sharing a picture of herself with her back to the camera, she wrote, “Perfectly centered in my being and my conscience…I love how nature merges all its creation to experience oneness…and just how divided we are, when we break that balance. It’s heartbreaking to see just how miserable and unhappy the world around us is becoming.”

She continued, “The so called intellectuals with their idiosyncrasies….the ignorant with their cheap and at times funny gossip. The friends I never had and the acquaintances I’ve never met….all sharing their grand opinions and deep knowledge of my life and character…monetising the ‘Gold Digger’ all the way!!! Ah these geniuses!!!I dig deeper than Gold…and I’ve always (famously) preferred Diamonds!!And yes I still buy them myself!!” Several Bollywood celebs of the likes of Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Dia Mirza, Shilpa Shetty Lorren Gottileb, Suniel Shetty, Aparshakti Khurana, Neha Dhupia and Sophie Chaudhary hailed Sushmita for her comment.

Priyanka Chopra wrote, “Tell them Queen” with a fire emoji whereas Neha Dhupia simply wrote, “Sush!” with a fire and heart emoji. Ranveer Singh also dropped heart emoticons in the comments’ section. The actor was also the first to drop a heart emoji with evil eye emoticon on Lalit Modi’s post.

Gold herself

Actress Sukhmani J Sadana feels ‘live and let live’ philosophy works best. But as a public figure one cannot avoid the judgments and public opinions that come along with the appreciation, love and acceptance. She says, “I think gold digger is a term devised by men who like to hit at women for hurting their ego, may be women should coin a term for men who marry for beauty. Sushmita is gold herself and does not need a man to sustain herself. One can look at the life she has led, the battles she has fought with the legal system to be a single parent and legally adopt a second girl child. Becoming the first Indian Miss Universe (1994) was a feat that inspired millions of girls in India to be like her.”

Debuted with Mahesh Bhatt’s Dastak, Sushmita has acted in movies like Sirf Tum, Biwi No.1, Maine Pyaar Kyu Kiya? and Main Hoon Na. It may not be a long list but she doesn’t solely rely on acting for income. The actress owns an event management company Tantra Entertainment and apparently charges around Rs 1.5 cr for brand endorsements. She has BMW 7 Series 730Ld, BMW X6, Audi Q7 and Lexus LX 470 and a luxurious property in Versova, Mumbai where she lives. The actress also owns a jewellery retail shop in Dubai which she has named after her adopted daughter Renee. She made a comeback on digital platform with the web series Aarya with two seasons out and more in the making.

The 46-year-old Sushmita’s net worth is Rs 74 crore approximately as against Lalit Modi’s net worth, which is approximately Rs 4555 crore. Her ex Rohman Shawl’s net worth was around Rs 1-2 crore.

Not the first time

It is not the first time that Sushmita’s love interest evoked public interest. Earlier, when she was dating model Rohman Shawl, people raised eyebrows on the couple’s age gap, which again Sushmita answered with her diamond smile. Just two weeks ago, On June 30, in conversation with actress Twinkle Khanna in The Icons episode, Sush spoke at length about the topic. She said, “If you lose yourself, you won nothing. That’s been my standard belief in life. I was just a person who wanted to be honest and speak my mind. And learn how to speak it gracefully. You can say things very crassly but unfortunately when you do that your point is lost. Be it plastic surgery, men in my life, relationships, married men, whatever you think is a bad thing, it exists. Just get over it.”

Meanwhile, Sushmita’s ex, Rohman Shawl, shared a cryptic post, “Kisi par hasne se agar tumhein sukoon mil jaaye to hass lena!! Kyunki pareshan wo nahi, tum ho!! #SpreadLoveNotHate”.
