In a candid conversation, actor Karan Mehra delves deep into the storyline and talks about his character, Manoj Agrawal in Mehndi Wala Ghar
Can you share some insights into your character, Manoj, in Mehndi Wala Ghar and how he contributes to the storyline?
For Manoj family is everything. He is ambitious and has a calm demeanour. However, he makes the difficult decision to leave the house for the sake of his love, Ajanta, which leads to significant conflict back in Ujjain. As the story progresses, Manoj realises the importance of family and ultimately decides to return home to make amends.
How did you prepare for this character?
I love the narrative revolving around a joint family. The story feels real as many of us have been brought up in a similar setup. This character too resonates with me. When we had script readings and collaborative sessions with the creative team and our director, they provided valuable input. Gradually, we developed the character together.
As an actor, how do you bring authenticity to your portrayal of Manoj?
Every character has its unique requirements, and I believe unless you don’t feel the character’s emotion, you cannot convincingly portray it. In the case of Manoj, I have multiple flashback scenes where the character is portrayed in a more energetic and youthful manner, contrasting with his more mature present-day persona. As a mature individual, Manoj carries a sense of responsibility and his expressions are more nuanced. I focus on these aspects while I portray the character. Luckily, I have a very good director who also keeps a close check on how I’m bringing out these nuances effectively.
How would you describe the relationship dynamics on the sets?
We share a wonderful camaraderie, we are like a family. I have previously worked with Vibha ji and know Paintal sir. Although I knew of Ravi and Rushad before, but working together has brought us closer, and now it feels like one big happy family.
What message do you hope viewers take away from Mehndi Wala Ghar?
The essence of Mehndi Wala Ghar lies in its portrayal of the intrinsic relationships in a joint family, a concept that is slowly fading in our society. Through our show, we aim to highlight the importance and strength of these familial connections. We want to showcase how a family can provide support and stand by you in times of need, which is especially relevant in today’s fast-paced life.
