Not all love stories unfold in the quintessential way of ek ladka aur ladki mile aur pyaar ho gaya; some have to live with their potential partners before falling in love! JioCinema’s new series, Jab Mila Tu, is something on similar lines, with actors Mohsin Khan, Pratik Sehajpal, Eisha Singh and Alisha Chopra playing the lead characters. To promote the show, the cast was in Chandigarh for a couple of days.
Jab Mila Tu is a slice-of-life drama that explores a unique journey of love and friendship in today’s age. Streaming for free from January 22, eight episodes are already out on the platform and more will be released in the coming weeks. This 24-episodic series is a first one to release four episodes per week. It also marks director Lalit Mohan, and actors, Mohsin Khan and Eisha Singh’s digital debut. Created by Nisheeth Neelkanth and Harjeet Chhabra, it is produced by Two Nice Men. The series is also available in Tamil, Kannada, and Bengali.
Character calling
Mohsin who is known for playing the role of Kartik in theshow Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (YRKKH), shares, “In Jab Mila Tu, I play Maddy, who is a passionate, larger-than-life character. But he is also dealing with emotional upheavals. It is about a refreshing young romance that gives me an opportunity to connect with Gen-Z and understand their idea of love. It is off-beat, yet refreshing. I couldn’t have asked for a better place than Chandigarh to connect with the youth and experience the refreshing vibe. Getting into the skin of Maddy’s character has been exciting.” The actor even shared how his previous character was completely opposite. “If Kartik was a perfect husband, Maddy is much different. But I love playing both the characters. Television has given us so much and we owe everything to the medium. I would never feel bad if years later also people recognise me for my role in YRKKH.”
Top priority
Pratik, although a newbie in the industry, is already a series or two old on the digital medium. The actor gained fame after Big Boss OTT and since then hasn’t looked back. Trying to make a mark with each project, he shares, “I have no qualms in working on any medium as long as I am working, and it’s a good story and character. Right now my priority is to do good roles.”
Alisha Chopra
Pratik also elaborates on his character Jigar, who is a fan of rockstar Maddy and wants to meet him. Although a Delhiite and a Punjabi, Pratik still faced some challenges, “I am a Punjabi, but I never really spoke the language around family and friends, so it took me some time to crack the role in my mind. I related to Jigar’s ambitious nature though.”
On the other hand, Mohsin had a fair idea of Maddy’s look and traits. He adds, “The moment I knew I was playing a musician, the first name that came to my mind was the legendary Jim Morrison. He has been such an inspiration to me. I also lost as many as 12 kilograms weight to portray Maddy with absolute authenticity.”
