Photographer and director Nuno Oliveira loves to be in India
What was your first break as a director?
My first break as a director was in a production house in Lisbon where I was doing some multi-cam TV shows and documentaries.
How was the experience of working on BFFs?
Directing BFFs was a great experience. The show was produced by Conde Nast Video and it was a good opportunity to combine my directing skills with my experience as a fashion photographer to create the show’s visual style. It was a talk show format, but it still needed to have that classy, chic style.
What do you enjoy the most as a director?
It’s satisfying to do TV shows because I can be involved in every step of the process — from the development of the show structure to the set design, lighting, shooting, and post-production, and, in the end, see it all come together as a final episode and series.
Since when are you in India and how long have you been working here?
The first time I came to India was in April 2016. I have been here for almost five years. At first, I used to come here for small periods, like one or two months. But as I started to get into the market and create my circle of friends here, I started to stay longer.
What do you like about our country?
Visiting India was always on my bucket list and I have to admit that when I first got here, my knowledge of India was very limited. I had watched some documentaries and movies, but most productions were done by non-Indians and therefore they offered a limited view of what this country was. I had no idea about the true magnitude of this country and its culture.
Any plans of directing a film?
In the near future, I’m planning to do some music videos; I really like the creative freedom that the medium allows. Feature films are always on my mind, it’s just a matter of finding the right project and a group of people who believe in that project. Films take up a long time for a director, and, as of now, my current work is keeping me busy.
