Priyank Sharma: My time to create magic

Priyank Sharma is back as Rahat in the second season of AltBalaji’s youth drama Puncch Beat. Here’s a chit-chat with the actor about his life, career and the show.

How did you end up acting?

The journey began 11 years ago when I started dancing professionally. I used to do shows. The preparation process, however, started way before the show. To me, most of the dancers are half-athletes and half-actors. I just knew that I had to come to Mumbai and start acting.

What do you like about your character Rahat in Puncch Beat 2?

Rahat and Priyank are two completely different personalities. Priyank is mischievous, fun-loving and talkative whereas Rahat is quiet. She expresses her emotions through her eyes. Being a dancer, I use my eyes a lot for expression, so it is my strength and I used this strength to play Rahat’s character.

What attracts you to a project?

If a role I have been offered is the complete opposite of my personality in real life, it intrigues me.

How was the experience shooting in this pandemic?

We were in Dehradun shooting for this series. We were extremely careful and shot with minimum crew. This is how the world is running now. When there is work, we have to work in a disciplined way and maintain all the Covid-19 guidelines.

How has Bigg Boss helped your career?

Bigg Boss opened so many different opportunities for me. After a reality show, there are a lot of consequences. Yes, the world gets to know about you and you become a familiar celebrity. Definitely, the reality show was a pathway for me.

How tough has the journey been?

The journey has not been difficult because I’ve been enjoying what I am doing. To me, this is not stressful, I feel like I belong to this space. This is my time to create magic out there.

What do you think of the OTT space as an actor?

The advantage of OTT platforms is huge for young actors like us because the platform only talks about real talent. If you have it, you show it. We are getting more opportunities without any barriers.
