The festival of Janmashtami is here and it is time for fun. Celebrated on Ashtami, the eighth day of the Krishnapaksha in the Hindu month of Shravan (August-September), the festival marks the birth of Lord Krishna. As we celebrate Janmashtami today at our homes, because Covid-19 still lurks, celebs recall their fondest Janmashtami moments and the principles of Lord Krishna they follow in life.

Flower power: Sheena Bajaj

Since childood, I have always seen Janmashtami as a fun festival. But due to the pandemic it’s not safe, unless we all are vaccinated. The best memory is when I attended a Janmasthmi puja at a friend’s place. Lord Krishna was decorated beautifully in flowers.

Lesson from Lord Krishna: Among all the things present, time is supreme because time kills everything.

All the fun: Delnaaz Irani

Janmashtami is all about colours, music and fun. During this festival, we have seen people going in trucks and enjoying. It’s not like we are Parsis, so we don’t celebrate. We do celebrate it in our own little way.

Lesson from Lord Krishna: The key to happiness is the reduction of desires.

Celebration time: Rohit Purohit

I have seen Dahi Handi celebration in Jaipur once. Even in school, we used to have that celebration. It used to be a lot of fun, as I used to get a lot of laadoos to eat at home as well as in school.

Lesson from Lord Krishna: A man is made by his beliefs. As he believes, so he becomes.

Great learning: Aishwarya Khare

My father is a bhajan singer. So, on every Janmashtmi, he does Jagrata (night vigil) in a Krishna temple, which we used to attend since we were kids. There used to be this huge Laddoo Gopal ji’s idol and at midnight, grand celebrations took place.

Lesson from Lord Krishna: You have a right to perform your prescribed duties (karma), but you are not entitled to the fruits of your actions.

Festive fervour: Jasmin Bhasin

I want to celebrate Janmashtami in Mathura. I grew up in Kota, Rajasthan. Someday, I would like to go to Mathura and celebrate Janmashtami there. I’ve heard the celebrations are huge in Mathura and Vrindavan. Festive fervour always makes one happy, as it brings a lot of positivity. I like to eat sweets like jalebi and laddoo on the occasion.

Lesson from Lord Krishna: For the one who has conquered the mind, the mind is the best of friends, but for one who has failed to do so, the mind is the greatest enemy.

Live life: Pranitaa Pandit

I believe every festival is important and India is known for them. In films, I always like to watch Dahi Handi and Janmashtami celebration. And one of my favourite songs is Mach Gaya Shor from the movie Khuddar.

Lesson from Lord Krishna: Whatever happens is for good. Whatever will happen, will also be good. Do not worry about the future. Live in the present.
