This Friday, there will be talk of television on the big screen! Haven’t guessed it? Punjabi period film Television will hit the theatres this week and take the audience back to the time when community watching was a big thing. Directed by Taj, the film stars Kulwinder Billa, Mandy Takhar, Gurpreet Ghuggi, BN Sharma, Harby Sangha, among others. The music will be released under the banner of Saga Music and will be digitally distributed by Unisys Infosolutions Pvt Ltd.
The lead actors, Kulwinder Billa and Mandy Takhar, are paired together for the first time and enjoyed filming together. The trailer of Television was showcased recently; Kulwinder says, “We had planned to release it earlier, but nobody felt like doing anything after the shocking and sad news of Sidhu Moosewala’s murder. We waited till the last rites and the prayer ceremony. But one cannot stop the industry from functioning as livelihood of many people depend on it. As for the film, I think this family entertainer will draw its own audience via word of mouth. And it’s a story that majority of the audience will relate to.”
Kulwinder says his family had the old TV with a shutter, but regrets not having preserved it. As for singing, he says, “Music is my first love and it would never get compromised in pursuit of my acting career.”
Weighty affair
On her part, Mandy says, “I don’t have any memories of the ‘old television days’, since I grew up in London. But my childhood addiction of watching television helped me relate to the character. After watching the film the audience will find that the lead is the television— every character revolves around it.”
She will next be seen in Punjabi movie, Haye Ni Meri Moto, and has gained much weight to look the character she is portraying on screen. Although her weight loss journey has started now, she shares how gaining weight wasn’t that easy too! Ask her whether physical transformation as in Haye Ni Meri Moto or mental preparation for Television was tougher and she says, “Both require effort and hard work and as I have done both, I wouldn’t dare to say one is any less than the other.”
