The company, run by Vashu Bhagnani and Jackky, had to lay off 80% of its staff and mortgage properties to cope with the losses.
Speaking on Humans of Bombay, Rakul emphasized that the media reports were exaggerated, and the company is not shutting down. She stated, "It was a very challenging time for the family and for him. But a lot of things said in the news weren't even correct. No company is shut".
Rakul also highlighted the importance of perspective in dealing with crises, saying, "Any situation in life has two ways of looking at it. I can either register all the wrong things happening or be grateful that I have a roof over my head and a healthy body".
Pooja Entertainment's post-pandemic releases, including Mission Raniganj, Ganapath, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, flopped at the box office, leading to significant financial losses. The company faced allegations of unpaid dues to staff, which were later reportedly settled with the help of actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. Among the releases, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was said to be made on a budget of Rs 400 crore.
Vashu Bhagnani has denied rumours of bankruptcy and that they were compelled to sell their seven-storey Mumbai office building to manage an estimated debt of roughly Rs 250 crore. He clarified that their Mumbai office building is being redeveloped, not sold.
