Some old movies re-releasing in cinemas today
As cinema halls reopen in India from today with a strict set of guidelines, producers want to play safe. Instead of releasing new films, many old films are set to re-release in theatres. After PM Narendra Modi, now six more films will be back on silver screen. These include Ajay Devgn and Kajol’s Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior, Taapsee Pannu’s Thappad, Aditya Roy Kapur – Disha Patani’s Malang, Ayushmann Khurrana’s Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff-starrer War and late Sushant Singh Rajput’s Kedarnath.
Not just that, a discussion on having theatrical release of films that had a direct OTT release during the lockdown is also in progress. This list includes Shakuntala Devi, Gunjan Saxena and Gulabo Sitabo.
Meanwhile, under the guidelines by Home Ministry, cinema halls can operate at 50 per cent capacity. According to statement issued by the PVR authorities theatres will open from October 16. Some Punjabi movies like Carry On Jatta 2 and Sardarji will be re-released. Cinema halls in tricity are likely to re-open this Friday.
