Wagle Ki Duniya was quite a popular show in the 80s. What made you say yes to the reboot of this show?

I have always been very choosy about my work. After Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, I have done only two shows —Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo and Badi Door Se Aaye Hain. When this show came my way, there was no way I could say no because Wagle Ki Duniya is an iconic show.

Tell us about the new show…

Now, junior Wagle, the son, is taking over. There is a new middle class that has emerged over the years. It is called the upper middle class. This junior Wagle represents that upper middle class. The pay-scale has gone up, but things have become costlier. So, Wagle still has to bend backwards for a lot of things in life.

What do you think is the USP of this show?

That’s the humour of this character. My generation is immediately going to connect with this and the younger generation is going to be intrigued.

How will you define your journey as an actor?

It has been nice and fulfilling. I started off as a child actor and it’s been 35 years. I have been a part of some iconic shows. I have managed to create a name and goodwill for myself. So, I am quite happy with the way things have shaped up for me.

You will be 50 soon. What are your plans for the future?

Yes, I will complete half century of my life. I feel that we do owe a lot to this society. Gradually, I have been going out of my comfort zone and trying to make the changes that I want to see in society, even though in a small way, be it planting trees or meeting people and listening to their perspectives.
