The saying ‘fate is choice, not chance’ stands quite true for the film Qismat 2. It was director’s choice to not force a sequel unless he had a great script, team’s choice to wait for a proper release, and all those choices have worked well.

For Qismat fans, the sequel does take you ahead in terms of script, actors’ performances and music. The lead pair, Shiva and Bani, played by Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta, has brought some fresh acting goals for the industry. Their ability to laugh while crying and vice-versa is appreciable. Jaani as Kabil has shown his ability when it comes to writing lyrics.

Blame it on watching too much Bollywood if you may, but the story doesn’t surprise you. But, surprisingly, does hold well. From Shiva (Ammy) as ishq mein haara aashiq trying Hindi dialogues on Bani to surprise-package, actress Tania, in and as Majaz, head over heels for Shiva, her college coach, the characters in the film have been etched well. One of Shiva’s friends (played by Amrit Amby) brings in humour using his Discovery channel’s nar-maada prompts for Shiva-Bani’s brewing chemistry. Kudos to the director for placing them well!

In terms of being in sync with the current times, the film does not quite present a worthy excuse for Bani leaving Shiva to marry another one (Kaabil). But to make up for it, like Qismat 1 had modern parents, the second instalment has modern in-laws! Sargun and Tania’s banter is quite adorable too.

The jodi of Ammy and Sargun looks amazing together, as the two lift the bar with their individual appearance, styling and performance. Not to forget, their unsaid way of communicating which is endearing and something that keeps the essence of the first film as does the bike rides of the couple. Supporting actors, minus Ekta’s cliché dumb role as a friend of Bani, have done well. Ammy’s mirror scene, where he conveys humour and sadness in one go, is worth mentioning too. While we can’t tell much about how fate unfolds for Shiva and Bani this time, the film is sure fated to get much love from the masses.
