Television stars share what Republic Day means to them...
Sense of unity: Ekta Tiwari
Republic Day is a reminder of our duties and rights as citizens. The celebrations, especially the iconic parade at Rajpath, showcase India’s military strength, cultural diversity, and national pride. Winning prizes at cultural events is one of my fondest Republic Day memories. The school parades and competitions always filled me with a sense of unity and patriotism. We must uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution and contribute to the nation’s progress and harmony.
Ae mere watan ke logon: Namita Lal
My earliest Republic Day memory goes back to my school days in Dehradun, when I was in the sixth grade. I was asked to sing Ae mere watan ke logon in front of dignitaries. As I sang, the audience started crying, and some even sobbed openly. Since then, the song has stayed close to my heart, and I sing it at every Republic Day celebration. Republic Day holds immense significance, as it reminds us of the Constitution, our ultimate reference point during conflicts and debates. It’s vital for younger generations to understand and respect it. I love watching the Republic Day parade on TV—it’s an emotional and enriching experience. The cultural diversity, vibrant colours, and unity on display are truly special, and the setting in Delhi makes it even more memorable. Having seen similar events abroad, I believe India’s Republic Day parade is unparalleled.
Patriotism & treats: Anupama Solanki
Republic Day is a reminder of how far we’ve come as a nation. It holds a deep significance, not just for honoring our Constitution but also for reaffirming our commitment to democracy, equality, and justice. In today’s time, it encourages us to reflect on our collective progress and the values that bind us together as a nation. We must strive to uphold these values, ensuring that India remains a thriving democracy and a symbol of peace and unity. As a child, Republic Day at school meant a lot of activities, from drawing the National Flag to listening to our teachers talk about the significance of the day. We would look forward to small treats after the ceremony.
Discipline & pride: Hritik Yadav
Republic Day always brings back memories of attending fire brigade parades with my father. He was in the fire brigade department. There were so many activities, and the sense of discipline and pride. Republic Day reminds us to reflect on the values of equality, justice, and freedom that our Constitution stands for. It’s not just about looking back at our achievements, but also about asking ourselves if we’re carrying those ideals forward in our actions. Are we treating everyone fairly, respecting diversity, and contributing to a stronger, more united nation? This day inspires us to hold ourselves accountable and ensure that the principles of our Constitution are more than just words.
Reviving old memories: Hansa Singh
Sitting with my family to watch the Republic Day parade on TV are my cherished memories. Year after year something new used to be added to the parade. I still watch Republic Day parade on TV. It brings back those old memories. I just want my country to be the best. We have to do our best to make our country better.
