She had a ‘corona’ wedding with masks and all. Her wedding dresses with matching masks were featured in many fashion magazines. Ludhiana-based fashion designer and blogger Bhavdeep Kaur owns a design studio and has already picked her outfit for her first Karva Chauth. Her advice to the fasting women, “Pick bright colours like red, hot pink, orange etc for that colourful festive vibe. You can go for any of these silhouettes—a floor-length Anarkali suit or saree or lehenga or even a straight suit. Anything that you’re comfortable in. I’m wearing a beautiful creation from my label Youngberry which has a raw silk Anarkali, organza jacket and gharchola dupatta with intricate hand embroidery for my first Karwa Chauth. This outfit is perfect for a traditional Karwa look.”

Recreate thyself

Amritsar-born Kamna Sharma, a freelance make-up artist, says many of us would be avoiding salons for the obvious reasons. But that doesn’t imply one cannot create that special look. She says, “To prepare your skin for Karwa Chauth, you can do a clean-up at home. Apply a moisture-based cream and massage your face. Apply a good cleanser, then a scrub. If you want go chemical-free, just use oats and mix it with curd. Those who don’t have pimples can add coconut oil and massage it for five to 10 minutes. You will feel the difference instantly.”

Kamna advises women not to share their make-up products and count sanitisers and disinfectants as essentials.

About the Karwa Chauth look, Kamna says, “Leaving the hair open is a big no. Center-partitioned messy buns, big bindi, nude lips and smokey eyes go well with sarees and shararas. This season, subtle eyes, thick kajal and bold lip shade are also in vogue. And for those who do not like bold lipstick, they can apply dark kajal and do a little smudge, but avoid too much smudging. Go for any pastel colour for the lips. Don’t use blusher. If you don’t have a foundation, use any CC cream and then apply a bronzer. Also, no matter how tired and dehydrated you feel at the end of the day, don’t forget to splash a lot of water on your face and use a make-up remover or Johnson baby oil at night.”

For the girly vibe

And for the last-minute shoppers, fashion blogger and make-up artist Naaz Arora has a piece of advice. “Pick up a ready-made saree and pair it with a crop top. You will be a head-turner. You can also wear a regular kurta with heavy jewellery and dupatta for an Indo-western look. It is suitable for the young brides who do not wish to let go of their girly vibe. For make-up, smokey eyes can never go wrong.
