Celebrating World Music Day during the ongoing pandemic is tough. However, instead of live stage shows, it will now be an intimate affair with live music streams, where one can walk directly into a performer’s living room! We ask celebrity singers how they kept the fire of music alive within them during the lockdown!

True healer

Music during the pandemic times was all about staying positive. I will remember the thali clapping on March 22, 2020, which was the creation of music pan-India and gave us all hope to stay strong. Music is a healer of the soul.We are more focused on our work now as we have realised the value of time, the value of human life. Everything is so fragile and it can all slip away in a matter of seconds! Sukriti and Prakriti Kakar, singers

Personal connect

During these tough times, music has helped everyone overcome loneliness, anxiousness and uncertainty. It is not just artistes who have tried to keep everyone hopeful, but also people have stood with each other. Shilpa Rao, singer

Different feel

These uncertain times helped me take a break from a stereotypical artiste’s life. Live music streams from the comfort of my home made me connect with my fans. If I have to pick one song that sums up the lockdown journey, it’s Breaking the Rules, from the Hollywood movie Initiation, which also happens to be my first English song. Jubin Nautiyal, singer

Learning curve

The lockdown gave me the opportunity to develop new skills. I’m happy that I was able to spend this time exploring song-writing. I was able to work on songs at home and be self-sufficient throughout the process — whether it was for film, originals or covers. It will remind me of the number of self-shot videos that I have released. Jonita Gandhi, singer

Life is fleeting

Covid has made me reconnect with the student inside me. I have tried my hand at many aspects of music-making beyond singing — whether it is recording at home, audio production or the ukelele. Tum ho toh, gata hai dil sums up music for me in Covid times. Ragini Tandan, singer
