Very Peri, a warm blue with a violet-red undertone, which is considered as an indicator of possibilities, is the Pantone colour of 2022.
Replacing Ultimate Grey and Illuminating that reflected deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny in 2021, Very Peri aims at encouraging personal inventiveness and creativity.
While the most e-commerce sites have rolled out their Very Peri collections, here we have designers with their take on the new colour and how to nail it!
Ace designer Raghavendra Rathore calls Very Peri fresh, uplifting and regal. The colour, according to him, is representative of the times we are living in– filled with transition, hope and possibilities. “Popular with breeches and chinos, Very Peri might become a dominant colour in the winter wardrobe for men, who like to combine separates — for example a black blazer with tapered pants in Very Peri colour.”
The colour is available in many shades for bespoke breeches that can be combined with a classic bandhgala, says Rathore. For day time, he makes a case for a crisp white shirt with a Very Peri jacket which can be teamed with a pair of tapered silk trousers.
“When it comes to ethnic wear, this rich colour is enough to stand out on its own but with light embroidered details in rich gold or silver, it is a sure winner. Jodhpur breeches with a classic bespoke bandhgala can be worn for a summer soiree,” adds Rathore. Very Peri shade can be contrasted with light creams, Mediterranean white or black!
Abhinav Gupta and Esha Bhambri, co-founders, House of Fett, call it ‘sublime and soothing’. “The colour is a delight and it will be a joy to see this palate globally taking over giving a calm, positive yet optimistic vibe. This exquisite shade from the family of blue is a charm to be added to your interiors or clothing. Best suited to amp up the Sunday brunch look, the duo says, “Simply dress up in a Very Peri ensemble and pair it with milky white accessories and you’re a head- turner.”
Saloni Panwar, founder and designer, Gulabo Jaipur, sees Very Peri ruling the entire year. “We are going to witness an amazing summer collection, anarkalis and lehengas in this colour. Like, we have top and pants in this colour that can be teamed up with a pair of white shoes. Suits can be styled with an elegant braid and drop earrings or jhumkas.”
Calm is how designer Sawan Gandhi describes the colour of 2022.
“Very Peri could become the go-to colour for accessorising, like nail paints or a scarf. But I don’t see this colour as the favourite choice of Indians, especially for the ethnic market. As for the western spring summer, maybe yes! However, I wonder if it would be a lasting colour,” Gandhi says.
Dress up your home in Very Peri
“Very Peri is going to be in every home, be it in the form of crockery or home furnishing,” says Saloni Panwar. “Elements like a floral vase, curtains and cushions draped in this artistic shade of Very Peri will instantly give your interiors a calm and serene touch,” say Abhinav Gupta and Esha Bhambri. “The colour is moody and mysterious, serene yet sexy,” says Raghavendra Rathore. “It reminds me of the violet hues in the sunset. It can be used as a big statement or paired with monochrome tones. The colour is forecasted as a lifestyle colour, which is more dominant in the schemes of interiors.”
