The best of art knows no boundaries. On a similar note goes the latest exhibition presented by Dance and Art Researchers’ (DAAR) Society. It features over 40 artists from tricity showcasing a diverse range of works, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, drawings, mixed media, digital art and photography. The exhibition commenced on Thursday at Punjab Kala Bhawan, Sector 16, and will end on August 11.
For the unversed, DAAR is a unique group of artists dedicated to promoting performing and visual arts.
As the exhibition isn’t theme-bound, it allows artists to let their creative juices flow. The painting ‘Yin-Yang’ by Reetika Verma perfectly portrays that ‘the allure of darkness is not to be underestimated, for the purest hearts are drawn to it’. In the shades of gold and brown, the acrylic piece presents the harmony between light and dark. “I’m the darkness in light and light in darkness. Yin represents darkness, while Yang signifies light and activity. Together, they illustrate the harmony essential for maintaining equilibrium in all aspects of life,” explains Reetika.
Another highlight is the aquatint print titled Mother Nature by artist Gurleen Kaur. A powerful visual statement, it stunningly puts together varied themes. The surrounding elements with natural motifs, including flowing vines, trees, flowers and animals, enhances the work. “These are not just for show, but a metaphor for the interconnectedness between nature and nurturing forces,” she says.
Another budding artist, Tanveer Kaur spoke about her oil painting, Tabdilli, which captures the emotions of a young and coy bride, her apprehensiveness towards a new home and in-laws; her dilemma and her fears. The artist intentionally paints the bride and people around her in different colours to underscore loneliness felt by the former, despite being surrounded by people. The painting exudes a sense of nostalgia from the way it presents Punjabi marriages and brides. They look exactly how it used to be back in the day!
Art works of other artists, such as Rahul Dhiman, Nitin Kumar, Poonam Rana, Inderjit Kathuria, Anjali Gaur, Kulwinder Singh, Tulsi Ram Prajapati and Rashmita Kanojia, are also on display.
