Delhi Crime brings home India’s first International Emmy
Delhi Crime that opened to rave reviews in 2019, got the ultimate honour a show can aim for – the Best Drama Series at the International Emmys. What makes it even more special, it’s the first ever for an Indian show! This Netflix series boasts of a stellar cast, including Shefali Shah, Rajesh Tailang, Rasika Dugal and Adil Hussain.
Almost there
The nominations were announced in September 24. There were 44 nominees across 11 categories and 20 countries. All these programmes were broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2019, in accordance with the competition’s eligibility period.
India’s two other nominations at the 48th Annual International Emmy Awards were – one in Best Comedy for Four More Shots Please!” and for Best Actor for Arjun Mathur in Made in Heaven.
Perhaps, 2020’s megahit series like Paatal Lok might keep up the winning streak next year too.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners for the 48th Annual International Emmy Awards on Monday via a live stream event. Other Netflix wins included Portuguese series Ninguém tá Olhando (Nobody’s Looking) for comedy and Spanish Telenovela La Reina del Sur in the category of Non-English U.S. Primetime Program.
Written and directed by Richie Mehta, Delhi Crime is a fictionalised version based on the Nirbhaya case. The series sensitively captures the complexities of the scrutiny, the emotional toll on the investigating team, and their determination to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Celebrating this incredible honour, director Richie Mehta, says, “I never anticipated getting here – it’s the culmination of years of work by hundreds of people, sometimes in total isolation and defiance. Delhi Crime is a complete labour of love, born out of sadness, anger, frustration, and ultimately, compassion.
